BLOG-BOMB!!! The victim: L.J. Holmes

Okay, I'm pretty excited this week. Actually, my timing is like a week off here, so bear with me for a mention in passing: Lies and Paine, my upcoming release, is coming up June 14th from MuseItUp Publishing (yay!).Last week, I posted an excerpt, but at that time I didn't have a cover to post. Well, on my birthday, I got cover art. It's on the "my Books" page here, so click on that real quick if you want to see it.

The reason I'm not tooting my own horn again this week, is that for a while now, I've wanted to get with my adopted sister at MuseItUp, L. J. Holmes, for an interview. Well, with both of us being busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest, the interview part will come later.

But I just finished a short work of Lin's, a mini-mystery titled She's Gone.

Guys, you want to get this one. For one, the cover is so intriguing, I couldn't resist being attracted to the story within. It's a short read, only 26 pages, but there's a whole lotta story packed in there. I spent just as much time enjoying the tongue-in-cheek humor as I did the way she drug my heart through the maze of clues left behind as Jon Ross wonders why his beautiful wife has suddenly disappeared-- Right along with every last possession of hers. Don't get in too big a rush to conclude what happened or why, because if there's one thing L.J. has a handle on, it's how to surprise a reader.

Okay, so the main reason I wanted to do this post was to highlight L.J. and hopefully steer some of you toward her work. She just finished her first full-length novel, and shares credits on some stories with her daughter, Kat Holmes. You thought I cranked out some stroies? Holy cow, these two have a fistful of stories published in the time it took me to do four.

Lin has been with MuseItUp since Day One, and was one of the first to welcome me there with open arms. Since then, we've found out just how small the world really is (her brother used to be a pilot for the company for which I work!) We've become pretty close friends since then.

But friendship aside, Her writing style is very easy on the eyes, and the impact her story makes will remain for some time.

Anyway, do yourself a favor and check out L.J.'s work at

Scroll down the left side of the page and click on the Author Search. Scroll down again til you find her. I'm pretty sure you'll find something to like.

  1. OMG...I'm speechless...and Kat, my daughter, and sometime writing partment will tell you that doesn't often happen. Thank you Cyrus. I am proud of this story, and love the cover Nika Dixon created for it. I'm, omg, I'm sitting here with this huge grin on my face. Saying "thank you" is hardly adequate, but thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

  3. Congratulations, Cyrus, on your upcoming release: Lies and Paine. Great cover and the excerpt is intriguing. I loved seeing your post on Lin Holmes and her work. Lin's stories always intrigue me. She has a special ability to turn your thinking upside down...in a good way. So, here I go, scooting the cats out of my chair, Kick Ass coffee at my elbow and entering Lin's quirky world again. Love the cover, Lin.

  5. I am so honored...and thank you all for your kind words. Did you notice I was so excited I called Kat my "partment?" instead of "partner"? Sometimes the mind is cranking out things faster than the fingers.

Cyrus...you mention it being a small world, and it is. I am so glad Don knew you, my very own Patrick Stewart look-alike.

Mary, the cover is one of my favorites. Nika Dixon gave me a phenomenal cover, and it haunts in its simple power.

JQ, luckily I write a LOT of short stories. I once told Kat I doubted I had the attention span to write a full length novel...and wasn't sure if I attemtped it I wouldn't end up with the stuff you scrape off your feet after walking through a cow pasture...(not pretty.)...all over my prose.

And again, thank you Cyrus. You really did fill the cockles of my heart.

  6. Very nice post, Cyrus, and congratulations on your book release. I enjoy reading about the dynamic writing duo - Lin and Kat. I feel a bit inadequate with one just book, and it's release won't be until August at the earliest.

The book cover is very nice, Lin. It does draw one in.

  7. What a wonderful tribute to a truly remarkable lady. Lin Holmes is a pure heart if ever there was one, and it shows in her work and in her many loving relationships. A truly worthy recipient of this great blog bomb!

  8. I am so blessed to have found my way to Muse It Up Publishing where my writing voice has found a home, and my heart has found a family.

Leona you are at the beginning of the journey...a journey Cyrus and I have been trodding through for a while now. I know how excited you must be and how terrified too as your release date grows ever closer. It seems like such a daunting task, bringing that first book to the world, but I agree with my dear brother, Cyrys...you are at the start, but greatness is coming your way. Each step will bring you new incites, but you already know the most important one...you ARE an author...one WORTHY of that brass ring we call the contract. Never lose sight of that because no one can take that from you.

Glenn...I cannot tell you what it does for my soul to see you and Cyrus here together. I love you both so much and know how profoundly blessed I am you're both a part of my world.

Cyrus, what you did for me with this bomb...what you've done for me by opening your heart, your world, your family to Kat and me...I'm a writer, yet words...adequate words are failing me...again. Love You.

  9. Hi Cyrus - Yes...your cover art rocks!! Happy Birthday, too:)
L.J. - BIG Hugs! Cyrus, I have her book on my kindle and have not read it yet (so many writing things going on, it's hard to simply read for pleasure)...now you've got me all excited about She's Gone again.

Very nice review...and it's an amazing story of friendship how the two of you got together;) Muse has a wonderful way of bringing authors together in friendships.
